I had an absolute treat last week with a fun school visit to the junior classes at Burnham Primary School as part of their book week celebrations. I was blown away by their amazing art, especially this gorgeous picture of themselves as characters in the book. We chatted about writing and then I got to hear some of the children's own stories. The commitment the school and children have made to improving their creative writing was easy to see and I loved learning about what they had been doing. I'd love to be invited back again next year.

32-page full colour guide featuring over 100 of the best children’s books chosen and reviewed by booksellers. Read the guide here. Produced by the Australian Booksellers Association, Kids’ Reading Guide has been the leading children’s book catalogue for over 20 years. The guide covers the best books for young readers of all ages, from Baby & Toddler through to YA. This year the welcome is from Ursula Dubosarsky, author of many outstanding books, both for children and young adults, and also the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2020-2021. Hachette Aotearoa NZ, Smith & Caughey, Sarah Greig and I are all thrilled to share with you that 'The Fairies' Night Before Christmas' has been brought to life with amazing animated puppets for the Smith & Caughey christmas window display for 2021. Seven Sharp interviewed us for the fairies' television debut. You can view the clip here. Children and their families can visit the windows while observing safe social distancing practices and from next week Auckland shops may open under level 3, step 2. And who knows, they might switch to the traffic light system any day now as they close in on the target of 90% double vaccinated rate. There were so many people involved in bringing this festive project to fruition and I know I can speak for us all when I say we whole-heartedly hope this brings some festive seasonal cheer to the hearts of Auckland's children, and to the young at heart. There was a big rush on the books after the show aired, selling out in some places but more stock is winging its way across the Tasman and should be back in shops next week. There are still copies available online at Smith & Caughey. Here's a wee sneaky peek at what's coming tomorrow! Can't wait to show you more detail. Can you guess where the picture was taken?

Whether you're out for a tramp, or walking around your neighbourhood, keep an eye out for some of the items our family find in A Stick and A Stone. Show Hachette what you've found! We'd love to see all the treasures you picked up while walking. Tag @HachetteNZ on social media or email us at [email protected]. Hilary Jean Tapper and I were so excited to be asked to run a fun session for Christchurch's famous Word Festival. Our session was part of The Great Story Hunt to be held at Turanga Library (possibly the world's best library!?) Unfortunately Covid19 and lockdown postponed the event and now with our continuation at level 2 in the South Island unfortunately our session can no longer be held. Several other events for adults can go ahead though so check out the program if you're in town.https://wordchristchurch.co.nz/ |
