Public Art

Originating in the UK 'Wild in Art' designs fibreglass sculptures and then commissions artists to 'recreate' the sculptures in unique and beautiful ways. Luckily New Zealand has had two opportunities to experience a Wild in Art trail, in Christchurch and Auckland. Being part of the trails as an artist was an amazing experience, stretching me and my abilities in many ways.

The Big Hoot, Auckland, New Zealand- 'Life Cycles' Designed and made by Sarina Dickson. Inspired by the growing consciousness of making changes in our urban and rural environment to reduce waste and use less fuel. Sarina has created a design featuring feathers individually cut from used bicycle tyre innards, bike reflector light decals and offcuts of synthetic grass, making the owl striking to both the eye and touch.

Christchurch Stands Tall, Christchurch, New Zealand. 'Reflecting Changes' Designed and made by Sarina Dickson.

Public art is becoming a big art of life in Christchurch so it seemed like an obvious way to promote 'Rising Tide', a book that had become well-known to Christchurch children. Design by Jenny Cooper, Mural artist Richard 'Pops' Baker, text by Sarina Dickson.
